On a remodel, who shows up matters as much as what gets built.

What Owner-Led Means on a Remodel

Hiring someone to remodel your home means letting them into your kitchen or bathroom for a long stretch and trusting them with a lot of money and a lot of your daily routine. The tile and the cabinets are only half of what you are buying. The other half is how the job is run: who makes decisions, who answers the phone, and who is standing in your house when something unexpected turns up behind a wall. That is what owner-led is supposed to mean, and it is worth being specific about.

It starts with a consultation

Recommended Remodeling is led by owner Chad Peetz, and every job begins with a thorough consultation. That means looking at the room, listening to what you want, and asking about how you live in the space, not just handing over a catalog. The point of this first conversation is to find out what the project actually is before anyone commits to a plan.

The company describes its services as design to execution, and says it can customize them to fit any budget and vision. That is a useful phrase because it works in both directions. A smaller budget does not mean being turned away, and a larger vision does not mean being sold more than you need.

Then comes a detailed plan

After the consultation comes a detailed plan. For a homeowner, a written plan is one of the most useful things a contractor can hand over. It turns a conversation into something both sides can point to: what is being done, what is being installed, what happens in what order. It is also the document that makes a change visible. If you decide halfway through that you want a different vanity or an extra outlet, the plan is where that adjustment is recorded, so nobody is working from a memory of what was said in the driveway.

Detailed plans also show their value at the start of a project, when the trades are lined up. The company states that it can sub-contract all plumbing jobs, so the plumbing is handled by plumbers and sits inside the same plan as the framing, electrical, tile and flooring. One plan, one point of contact, instead of a homeowner trying to schedule four separate trades.

The owner is on site

In Chad's own words from the company site: "As the owner, I am personally on-site for every project, providing hands-on leadership and ensuring our work aligns with your vision." That is a plain commitment and a meaningful one. Remodeling is full of small judgment calls: a wall that is not quite plumb, a tile layout that leaves a thin sliver at the corner, a cabinet that wants to be an inch to the left. When the person making those calls is the person whose name is on the company, they tend to get made the way a homeowner would want.

It also changes who you talk to. On an owner-led job, the person who walked through your house at the consultation is the person who can tell you why the schedule moved, what turned up, and what the options are. Nothing gets lost between a salesperson and a crew.

Open communication at every stage

The company describes its reputation this way: "We've built a reputation for being open and honest with our clients, ensuring clear communication at every stage." On a remodel, that matters most when the news is not good. Old houses hide things. A wall opened for a new shower might reveal damage nobody could have seen from the outside. The way a contractor handles that moment tells you more than any brochure. You want a call that says what was found, what it means, and what the choices are, and you want it before the work moves on.

Practical communication also means being reachable. Recommended Remodeling lists its hours as Monday through Sunday, 7 am to 8 pm, which reflects how homeowners actually live, and gives a direct number.

What the four pillars come to

The company sums up its approach in four ideas: precision in every project, the owner's direct oversight, skilled and certified expertise, and transparency. Read together they describe a single habit: care about the details, show up yourself, bring people who know the work, and tell the truth. The company has also been recognized locally, with a 2023 Platinum and a 2024 Gold award for Best Remodeling Company in Spokane Valley, which the company states on its site.

Questions worth asking any contractor

  • Who will be on site day to day, and who makes the decisions?
  • Will I get a written, detailed plan before work begins?
  • How are changes handled once the job is under way?
  • Who handles the trades you do not employ yourself?
  • How will I hear about surprises, and how fast?

Whoever you hire, those are fair questions. If you are planning a project in the Spokane Valley area, the about page and the home remodeling page on this site tell more of the story, and Chad Peetz can be reached at 509-464-9873, Monday through Sunday, 7 am to 8 pm.
